Michallon, Achille-Etna

Michallon, Achille-Etna (b Paris, 22 Oct. 1796; d Paris, 24 Sept. 1822). French landscape painter, the first artist to win the Prix de Rome in the historical landscape category that was established in 1817. He was a pupil of David and Valenciennes and in his turn taught Corot, who was influenced by his severe compositions and cool colour harmonies. His early death was caused by pneumonia.
