Michallon, Achille-Etna

Michallon, Achille-Etna (b Paris, 22 Oct. 1796; d Paris, 24 Sept. 1822). French landscape painter, the first artist to win the Prix de Rome in the historical landscape category that was established in 1817. He was a pupil of David and Valenciennes and in his turn taught Corot, who was influenced by his severe compositions and cool colour harmonies. His early death was caused by pneumonia.

Michallon, Achille-Etna

Michallon, Achille-Etna (1796–1822). French landscape painter, the first artist to win the Prix de Rome in the historical landscape category that was established in 1817. He was a pupil of J.-L.
