Abishai

Abishai

Abishai A loyal soldier in David's band who had to be restrained from killing Saul when he was resting from the pursuit of his young rival (1 Sam. 26: 9). Abishai was later implicated with Joab (2 Sam. 3: 30) in the tit-for-tat murder of Abner, who had killed their brother Asahel (2 Sam. 2: 23); the biblical text claims that David had no part in this act of vengeance (2 Sam. 3: 37).
