A. J. Cronin

Cronin, A. J.
Cronin, A. J. ( Archibald Joseph Cronin) (1896–1981), practised as a doctor for some years before devoting himself to an extremely successful career as a middle-brow novelist. His best-known novels (e.g. The Stars Look Down, 1935; The Citadel, 1937) combine in their subject-matter the appeal of medicine and of mining, reflecting his own early experiences as a doctor in South Wales.
