AMR Abbrev. for Audio Modem Riser. An Intel specification for low cost modem and audio connection for PCs. By physically partitioning the portion of the modem that must be certified (analog I/O) onto a separate riser module, the motherboard development cycle is decoupled from any delays that would be associated with the modem certification process. A companion specification, the MDC Mobile Daughter Card provides similar benefits where mobile form factor is required.
