Waitress on Stage
Waitress is a musical production that was inspired by the popular film of the same name by Adrienne Shelly. The film was released in 2007 and starred Kerri Russell. It was a huge hit at the box office and soon after it was announced that a stage production of Waitress was in the works.
The story of Waitress is centered around the main character Jenna, who is a waitress and expert pie maker. She also happens to be stuck in a loveless marriage with a man named Earl and dreams fervently of leaving her husband and her small town.
Her fortunes seem as if they are about to change: she catches wind of a baking contest which is going to be held in a nearby county. Furthermore the town’s new doctor is someone that Jenna could potentially begin her life over with. When Jenna unexpectedly becomes pregnant, she sees her gynecologist Dr. Jim Pomatter and soon begins an affair with him. The pie contest in the neighboring county and the grand prize that is up for grabs may just be her chance to start anew. But how does Jenna navigate her way forward?
This is the story of Jenna trying to muster up the strength and courage to take control of and rebuild her own life. While other waitresses who work with her may offer her their own recipes for success and happiness, ultimately, Jenna must find her own way.
