Cirque Du Soleil Tickets

The history of performing arts and entertainment is full of examples where something so amazing comes up that it alters the dimensions of the industry forever. Some of those masterpieces were conceived with a long term vision while there were others that were simply borne out of curiosity and passion.

During the early 1980s, a group of street performers decided to do what they loved best: perform. They wanted to do it to the best of their abilities. Little did they know that they would go on to push boundaries and change conventional wisdom about circuses and performing arts.

Welcome to the world of Cirque du Soleil!

Humble Beginnings

Cirque show tickets are among the most sought after tickets for a reason. Cirque du Soleil is a global entertainment juggernaut and they had to overcome quite a few obstacles to reach this point.

Gilles Ste-Croix was a street performer who put together a group of people in the early part of the 1980s and began to perform in Baie-Saint-Paul close to Quebec City in Canada. The collective was named Les Échassiers de Baie-Saint-Paul which if translated in English means, The Stiltwalkers of Baie-Saint-Paul.  The group also had Guy Laliberté as a member.

1984 marked the 450th anniversary of Jacques Cartier discovering Canada. There were to be big celebrations in Quebec and Laliberté saw that as a perfect opportunity to show their skills to a larger audience. A tour of the province was arranged as a result and it was named Cirque du Soleil. The show then went to other cities in Quebec and from there to other parts of Canada.

The US and Beyond

The time had come for Cirque du Soleil to cross the border and make its mark in the US and the show did just that by performing at the L.A Art Festival. The caravan continued to perform all across North America. Performances begin to sell out on a regular basis and in 1990, Cirque ventured into Europe for shows in Paris and London.

Onwards and Upwards

In the same year, Cirque debuted Nouvelle Expérience and then two years later came Saltimbanco, two touring shows that played a big part in enabling Cirque du Soleil make major strides forward.

Cirque then achieved another milestone when it came up with Mystère, its first permanent show in 1993. A theater in Las Vegas became its resident home and the show has been part of the Cirque du Soleil’s repertoire ever since. Mystère turned out to be somewhat of a watershed moment if you look at Cirque’s history. The show and its success opened new avenues for the organization and Cirque has made the most of it.
