About Jeff Dunham

A Texan, Dunham was adopted by Howard Dunham, a real estate appraiser, and his wife Joyce, when he was three months old. Dunham had no other siblings and was raised in an affluent neighborhood in Dallas.

At the age of eight, he started dabbling in ventriloquism when he was given a Mortimer Snerd dummy and how-to album for Christmas. The next day, he went to his local library and took out a book on ventriloquism. To this day, he still has that book and says he was "a thief in the third grade".

Dunham devoted serious time and energy to mastering ventriloquism. By the time he was in the sixth grade, he attended the Vent Haven ConVENTion, which is an annual international meeting of ventriloquists. He subsequently went to the ConVENTion every year and the organizers have now declared him as a "retired champion".
