Houston Texans Tickets

The Houston Texans are currently the youngest franchise in the NFL. The Texans played their first season in 2002. Since then, the team has won four Division Championships and as a result made it to the playoffs on four occasions. Their home stadium, from the beginning, has been the NRG Stadium in Houston, Texas. The 71,795 capacity stadium also happened to be the host of Super Bowl LI in 2017. The city of Houston had to part ways with its previous football team when the Houston Oilers relocated to Nashville, Tennessee, and became the Tennessee Titans. The Texans are the only team in the NFL who’ve never played in a Conference Championship game. In a relatively short period, the Houston Texans have developed a strong fan base. If you’re looking to catch a great game of football then Houston Texans tickets are your best bet.

The Beginning

The first few years for the Houston Texans were unremarkable. The Texans played their first season in the NFL as a member of the American Football Conference (AFC) South division in 2002. Going up against experienced teams such as the Indianapolis Colts and Jacksonville Jaguars, the Texans found it hard to make it to the playoffs. The Texans first season in the NFL got them 4 wins with 12 losses and placed them at the bottom of their division. The positive take away from the Texans first season was their wins over experienced teams such as the Dallas Cowboys, Jacksonville Jaguars, New York Giants and the Pittsburgh Steelers. From their debut season in 2002 till 2010, the Texans struggled to reach the top of their division. The Texans came close in 2009 by winning 9 games and losing 7 however, they missed out on the top spot by coming in second in the division. A few highlights of this period included DeMeco Ryans being awarded the Defensive Rookie of the Year award and Brian Cushing getting the same nod in 2009.

The Texans from 2011 to 2016

2011 was the first year when the Texans made it to the playoffs. This was the season when they also topped their AFC South division for the first time. With 10 wins and 6 losses, the Texans won the Wild Card playoffs against the Cincinnati Bengals 31-10. Their campaign to clinch the top NFL prize ended when they lost the divisional playoffs to the Baltimore Ravens 13-20. The 2011 was special in one other way. The Houston Texans signed J.J. Watt as their Defensive End. A Waukesha, Wisconsin, native and 11th pick in the first round, Watt started all 16 games and ended his first season with the Texans with 48 solo tackles, 8 assisted tackles and five and half sacks. These numbers would dramatically improve for Watt in the 2012 season. He finished the 2012 season with 69 solo tackles, 12 assisted tackles, 20.5 sacks and defended 16 passes. The Texans again finished on top of the South division with 12 wins and 4 losses. They again defeated the Cincinnati Bengals in the Wildcard Playoffs 19-13, however lost Divisional Playoffs to the New England Patriots 28-41. J.J. Watt was given the Defensive Player of the Year Award for having one of the best seasons for a Defensive End in the NFL.

The 2013 season was unremarkable for the Texans. In fact, 2013 turned out to be the worst year for the franchise with 14 losses and only 2 wins. The Texans ended the season with a 14 game losing streak. As a result, head coach Gary Kubiak was let go after eight seasons. He was replaced by Defensive coordinator Wade Phillips. The 2014 season brought a lot of improvement for the Texans. They ended the season with 9 wins and 7 losses. J.J. Watt was named Defensive Player of the Year with 59 solo tackles, 19 assisted tackles and 20.5 sacks. Even with this performance, the Texans were unable to make it to the playoffs. The Houston Texans finished the 2015 season again with 9 wins and 7 losses. However, this time the Texans made it to the playoffs as a Wild Card. They lost to the Kansas City Chiefs 0-30. Watt was again named Defensive Player of the Year. The 2016 season has not been that different for the Texans. Again they finished the season with 9 wins and 7 losses and made it to the playoffs as a Wild Card where they defeated the Oakland Raiders 27-14. The Texans lost the divisional playoffs to the New England Patriots 16-34. The Patriots would go on to beat the Atlanta Falcons in perhaps one of the best Super Bowl comebacks ever.

What’s Next for the Texans

2017 looks promising for the Houston Texans. The team ended 2016 as the No.1 defense in the NFL. With key starters, including J.J. Watt, injured in 2016, the 2017 season will definitely have them on the roster again. One of the most positive aspects of the 2016 season was that the Texans topped the defense in the NFL without their star Defensive End, Watt. Hopefully the Texans will come back a much stronger team. The Texans and their fans will also be happy to learn that Kevin Johnson, second year corner back and a rising talent will also be joining the team. These additions along with the rest of the players will definitely make the Houston Texans a stronger unit in 2017.

The Houston Texans may be youngest football team in the NFL, however they’ve shown a lot of maturity in the seasons they’ve played. With 4 playoff appearances in 15 seasons, the Texans are not short on both passion and talent. They have many talented and potential game winning players on their roster. They have gradually built up a strong fan base as well. With the 2017 season just around the corner, the Houston Texans tickets will become harder to get hold of. So if you’re looking for a young and exciting team going up against the more experienced ones in the NFL, don’t miss out on the Texans.
