Guns N’ Roses always had an Appetite for Destruction

Guns N’ Roses was formed in 1985 in Los Angeles. Its original members were Axl Rose, Slash, Duff McKagan, Izzy Stradlin, Steven Adler, Rob Gardner, Ole Beich and Tracii Guns. The band’s music is a fusion of punk and hard rock, hair and heavy metal, and blues rock.

Guns N’ Roses initially performed mainly in clubs in the Hollywood area. They were soon noticed by a major record label, Geffen Records. Eight months since their founding, Guns N’ Roses were signed by a record label. Their debut album Appetite for Destruction became the highest-selling debut album of all time in the US. The album was released in 1987 and reached No.1 on the Billboard 200. This debut album sold 18 million records in the US alone and 12 million records worldwide. The album was therefore certified Diamond in the US and Canada. It was certified Platinum in Australia, UK and Germany.

Ann Powers from The Rolling Stone magazine said of the release Appetite for Destruction is a unique mix of different rock values such as speed and musicianship, flash and dirt, on an album that changed hard rock's sensibilities at the time.

In 1989, the same publication would rank this album as the 27th best album of the 1980s.

Some of the hit singles from this album were Welcome to the Jungle, Sweet Child o’Mine, Think About You, Paradise City and Night Train. Sweet Child o’Mine reached No.1 on the Billboard Hot 100. No other single from Guns N’ Roses would be this successful.

Post Appetite for Destruction

Lies, released in 1988, was Guns N’ Roses second album. It reached the second spot on Billboard 200 and was certified 5×Platinum in the US. Patience was the biggest hit from this album, which also reached No.4 on the Billboard Hot 100. The Rolling Stone magazine was once again impressed and gave the album 4 out of 5 stars.

In 1991, Guns N’ Roses third and fourth albums, Use Your Illusion I and Use Your Illusion II were released. Both were certified 7×Platinum in the US. Vol.1 reached second spot on the Billboard 200, while Vol.2 reached the top spot on the same chart. The Rolling Stone magazine rated both albums by giving them 4 out of 5 stars. Some of the biggest hit singles from the albums were November Rain, Don’t Cry, Live and Let Die, You Could Be Mine and Knockin’ on Heaven’s Door.

The Spaghetti Incident? was Guns N’ Roses fifth album. Released in 1993, it reached No.4 on the Billboard 200 and was certified Platinum. Since I Don’t Have You and Ain’t It Fun were two of the biggest hit singles from the album. The Spaghetti Incident? was composed of covers of older hard rock and punk rock songs and therefore All Music noted As Guns N' Roses albums go, it's a complete delight, returning to the ferocious, hard-rocking days of Appetite for Destruction.

Guns N’ Roses last studio album was titled Chinese Democracy and it was released in 2008. It reached the third spot on the Billboard 200. It is the most expensive rock album ever, since it was produced with an estimated budget of $14 million. The album was certified Platinum, however, it undersold despite getting raving reviews from critics. Nonetheless, the album included big hits such as Street of Dreams, Better and Chinese Democracy.

Guns N’ Roses in 2017

The Not in This Lifetime… tour is the band’s latest series of concerts. The tour started in April 2016 and will last till late November 2017, when the band will play at Inglewood’s The Forum. Since the band keeps adding shows to this tour, these are tentative dates. Guns N’ Roses popularity and diverse fan base has taken them all over the world, including South America, Europe, Asia and Oceania.
