Garth Brooks: His Beginnings, Music, Awards and Accolades

Garth Brooks is a native of Tulsa, Oklahoma. His mother, Colleen McElroy Carroll was a country singer in the 1950s. The Brooks family held weekly talent nights at home where everyone was encouraged to perform. It was here that Garth Brooks developed an interest in music and learned to play the banjo and guitar.

Growing up, Brooks was exposed to a variety of musical genres and took great interest in rock music. His favorites at the time were Townes Van Zandt, Dan Fogelberg and James Taylor. However, once he started listening to George Strait, Brooks changed his musical inclination to the country music genre.

In 1985, Brooks began his musical career by playing at local bars and clubs. However, it was not until he moved to Nashville in 1987 that his talent was discovered. His debut album Garth Brooks was released in 1989, which made him an instant star.

Garth Brooks has released ten studio albums, out of which all except his last album, have been certified in the US. Garth Brooks, Sevens, Ropin’ the Wind and No Fences are some of his most successful albums. Friends in Low Places, Unanswered Prayers, The Dance, What She’s Doing Now and The Thunder Rolls are some of his most popular songs. Brooks has won multiple Academy of Country Music Awards, Billboard Music Awards and Grammy Awards in his career.
