Florida Georgia Line – Etymology & Christianity
Brian Kelley hails from Ormond Beach, Florida, while Tyler Hubbard is from Monroe, Georgia, and this how the two came up with their band’s name.
Kelley and Hubbard are not childhood friends, but share similar upbringing in which the church played a central role. Kelley was inspired by a Christian rock group Casting Crowns while in college and was interested in driving trucks and listening to Garth Brooks, Alabama, Eminem and Lil Wayne. Hubbard was a church worship leader who was also part of a hip hop band. The two musicians met each other at Belmont University in 2008 which is the largest Christian University in the state of Tennessee.
Founding of Florida Georgia Line & Music
Discovering their shared passion for music, Kelley and Hubbard began performed at local clubs on weekends. Florida Georgia Line was formally formed in 2010. Soon the duo was noticed by Nickelback producer Joey Moi at a country fair where Florida Georgia Line was performing. With the help of Moi, the duo began recording music in a studio. When Florida Georgia Line released Cruise, they were immediately noticed by record labels. The song performed well on iTunes and this led to the duo signing a record deal with Republic Nashville/Big Machine Label Group.
Philosophy behind Florida Georgia Line Music
For Kelley, country music is not just music, but a lifestyle. According to him Country music is always evolving and will continue to evolve. Perhaps this is why the duo has transitioned from making traditional country tunes to their present hybrid sounds, with lyrical focus on trucks, backroads, girls and drinking.
