Sheeran’s Early Life - Inspired by the Legends
Sheeran was born in Halifax, West Yorkshire, on February 17, 1991, into a family of art lovers. His parents ran an independent art consultancy and encouraged their children to listen to music. From an early age, Sheeran listened to the likes of Eric Clapton, Bob Dylan and Van Morrison. Sheeran, as a child, also attended concerts of Bob Dylan, Paul McCartney and Eric Clapton. These experiences would later inspire him to become a professional musician.
Ed Sheeran was gifted from an early age. He began singing, playing the guitar and writing songs while still in school. He was later accepted at the National Youth Theatre in London. Today, as an accomplished artist, he looks back at his life and credits The Beatles, Damien Rice, Eminem, Nizlopi, and Bob Dylan as having the greatest musical influences on his career.
Ed Sheeran’s early musical career was marked by releasing EPs, opening for other artists, performing at local clubs and bars and posting videos on YouTube. In a lot of ways, his road to stardom was typical of any famous musician. He began recording music in 2004 and by 2009 he had enrolled himself as an undergraduate at the Academy of Contemporary Music (ACM).
YouTube and the EP that Got the Ball Rolling
During his time at the ACM, his videos on YouTube started getting popular. In 2011, he released another one of his EPs titled No. 5 Collaborations Project. A variety of grime artists featured on this album, helping it reach the second spot on the iTunes chart. To celebrate his new-found success, Sheeran organized a free concert which was attended by more than 1,000 fans. Soon, after he was signed by Asylum Records.

Sheeran’s debut studio album titled + (plus) was released in 2011. It was a much-anticipated album, since two hit singles (You Need Me, I Don’t Need You and The A Team) had already been released, whipping up a media frenzy.
The album was a commercial hit, and also received positive reviews from music critics. It debuted at the top of the UK Albums Chart, ARIA Charts, Irish Albums Chart and Official New Zealand Music Charts. The album was also certified 2xPlatinum in the US.
In addition to You Need Me, I Don’t Need You and The A Team, some of the other hits from this album were Give Me Love, Small Bump, Drunk and Lego House.
Ed Sheeran released his second album, × (multiply) in 2014. It debuted at the top of 15 charts globally, including Billboard 200. This album remains to date Sheeran’s biggest commercial hit. It was certified 10×Platinum in his native UK, making it one of the best-selling albums in country’s music history. Moreover, it was certified 4×Platinum in the US and had the critics raving.
In the UK, The Daily Telegraph called it a vehicle for emotional veracity, personal revelation and universal inclusion. In the US, the Boston Globe commented that with the release of this album Sheeran comes into his own.

Released in 2017, this is Sheeran’s latest album. It debuted at the number one position across 14 music charts. In Sheeran’s native UK, the album was certified 6×Platinum, while in the US, it was certified Platinum. The Rolling Stone gave it 4 out of 5 stars and commented that the artist is still showcasing pop savvy on Divide. Castle on the Hill and Shape of You are two of the biggest hit singles from this album.

Since March 2017, Sheeran has been headlining the ÷ Tour. This tour will end in August 2018 with live performances all over the world. This tour will include performances in North and Latin Americas, Europe, Asia, and Oceania.
