hangar

hang·ar / ˈhangər/ • n. a large building with extensive floor area, typically for housing aircraft. • v. [tr.] (usu. be hangared) place or store in a hangar: the army choppers that were hangared out at Springs. DERIVATIVES: hang·ar·age / -rij/ n. ORIGIN: late 17th cent. (in the sense ‘shelter’): from French; probably from Germanic bases meaning ‘hamlet’ and ‘enclosure.’
