shergottyite/nakhlite/chassignite meteorites (abbreviation SNC) Association of about a dozen meteorites, much younger (1.3 billion years) than the majority found (4.6 billion years). They have igneous textures and contain iron-rich silicates and iron oxides, therefore must come from an oxygen-rich environment, and also small amounts of water-bearing minerals. Probably they all come from the same planetary body; the most favoured possibility is the planet Mars.
