Pseudotsuga
Pseudotsuga (Douglas fir; family Pinaceae) A genus of evergreen conifers that have leaves like Abies (fir), but narrow, scaly buds like Fagus (beech). Female cones have long, projecting, 3-lobed bract scales which are distinctive. P. menziesii is planted extensively for forestry. There are 4 species, 2 occurring in western N. America, 2 in China, and 1 in Japan.
