Philaret Drozdov
Philaret Drozdov (1782–1867). Russian theologian. In 1818 he became a member of the Holy Synod, and in 1821 archbishop of Moscow, receiving the title metropolitan in 1826. He was an exemplary bishop—a wise administrator and popular preacher. Among his many theological works, his Christian Catechism (1823) was most influential, despite the alleged influence in it of Lutheran ideas.
