Huang-po Hsi-yün, (Hsi-yün of the Huang-po mountain, Jap., Ōbaku Kiun; d. 850 CE). Chʾan/Zen master, dharma-successor (hassu) of Pai-chang Huai-hai and teacher of Lin-chi I-hsüan, through whom he becomes one of the forefathers of the Rinzai school. His teachings were gathered by Pʾei Hsiu (Jap., Haikyū) under the (shortened) title Chuʾan-hsin-fa-yao, a classic text of the Chʾan tradition, which expounds the teaching of universal mind.
