Zaandam
Zaandam (zändäm´), municipality (1991 est. pop. 130,000), North Holland prov., W Netherlands, near Amsterdam. Manufactures include food products, chemicals, lumber, and machinery. Peter I of Russia stayed at Zaandam in 1697 to learn shipbuilding, which was then a flourishing industry of the city. Many windmills are located near Zaandam.
