Erb, Donald James (b Youngstown, Ohio, 1927). Amer. composer. Played tpt. in dance bands. Teacher at Cleveland Inst. 1953–61, comp.-in-residence 1966–81, prof. of mus. Indiana Univ. Sch. of Mus. 1984–7, prof. of comp., Cleveland Inst. from 1987. Comp.-in-residence St Louis SO 1988–90. Comps. incl. several works involving tape and synthesizers, but many works employ more conventional means. The latter incl. vc. conc. (1975); tb. conc. (1976); tpt. conc. (1980); contrabn. conc. (1984); cl. conc. (1984); Concerto for Orch. (1985); conc. for brass and orch. (1986); Woody, cl. (1988).
