grosbeak
grosbeak Any of several birds of the finch family (fringillidae). They have short, thick, seed-cracking beaks. Found in woodlands of the Americas, Europe and Asia, species include the rose-breasted grosbeak (Pheucticus ludovicianus) of North and South America, and the pine grosbeak (Pinicolor enucleator) of Canada and n Europe. Length: 18–25cm (7–10in).
