Transcaucasia

Transcaucasia Former Soviet republic, corresponding to the three constituent republics Armenia, Azerbaijan, and Georgia. Created in 1918, after the Russian Revolution, it re-emerged in 1922, and gained full republic status in 1924. Georgia, Azerbaijan, and Armenia were re-established as separate republics in 1936, and became independent nations on the break-up of the Soviet Union in 1990.
