Blond, Jean-Baptiste-Alexandre Le
Blond, Jean-Baptiste-Alexandre Le (1679–1719). French architect. He trained in Paris, where he built the Hôtel de Clermont, Rue de Varennes (1708–14). His elegant architecture is perhaps best appreciated from the Reynault House, Châtillon-sur-Bagneux (c.1709–14). In 1716 or 1717 he was engaged by Peter the Great to superintend the works at St Petersburg, Russia, where he introduced the Rococo style at the palace of Peterhof (later doubled in length by Rastrelli). A fine draughtsman, he prepared illustrations for Félibien's history of Saint-Denis (1706) and d'Aviler's Cours in the 1710 edition, which he also edited.
