Guatemala sinkhole

On May 31st, 2010, a massive sinkhole opened in an intersection in Guatemala City, Guatemala, swallowing a three-story building and causing several deaths. Geologists believe that this sinkhole was caused by Tropical Storm Agatha.

Loss downwards differentiates them from other types of closed depressions, such as impact craters or deflation hollows that form when material is carried out over the enclosing rims.
