extra- L. adv.-prep. extrā outside (contr. of exterā, abl. fem. of exterus EXTERIOR) used to form adjs. on the model of L. extrāordinārius EXTRAORDINARY, extrāmũrānus extramural (f. extrā mũrōs outside the walls), in which an adj. termination is added to a phr. consisting of extrā governing an acc.
