blem·ish / ˈblemish/ • n. a small mark or flaw that spoils the appearance of something: the merest blemish on a Rolls Royce might render it unsalable. ∎ fig. a moral defect or fault: local government is not without blemish. • v. [tr.] [often as adj.] (blemished) spoil the appearance of (something) that is otherwise aesthetically perfect: thousands of Web pages are blemished with embarrassing typos fig. his reign as world champion has been blemished by controversy.
