verism

verism (vēr´Ĭzəm), artistic style in which photographic realism is combined with hallucinatory or ironic images. Its practitioners, including Salvador Dalí and Yves Tanguy, often make use of Renaissance concepts of perspective and various academic conventions. The style is also termed veristic surrealism.
