SITE (Sculpture in the Environment). American multi-disciplinary architectural group launched in 1969 by James Wines, and best known for the Best Products chain of stores, including the Peel Project, Richmond, VA (1971–2), the Indeterminate Façade, Houston, TA (1974–5), the Tilt Showroom, Towson, MD (1976–8), and the Inside/Outside Showroom, Milwaukee, WI (1984). In these, ‘broken’ walls, whole fronts lifted as though they are cardboard, and other curious elements have made their buildings notorious. Other works include Avenue 5, Expo 92, Seville, Spain (1992), and several projects in which ecology was well to the fore.
