Halicarnassus

Halicarnassus an ancient Greek city on the SW coast of Asia Minor, at what is now the Turkish city of Bodrum. It was the birthplace of the historian Herodotus and is the site of the Mausoleum of Halicarnassus (see mausoleum), one of the Seven Wonders of the World.

Halicarnassus Ancient Greek city in sw Asia Minor. Under Persian rule from the 6th century bc, its advantageous trading position made it rich. In the 4th century bc, it was a semi-independent state under the Persian governor, Mausolus, whose tomb was one of the Seven Wonders of the World.
