Charismatic authority. Type of leadership, not confined to religions, exercised by gifted individuals. It was defined by Weber as ‘a certain quality of an individual personality, by virtue of which he is considered as extraordinary and treated as endowed with supernatural, superhuman, or at least exceptional powers or qualities’.
