stoss and lee The up-glacier and down-glacier slopes respectively of a rocky obstacle that has been glaciated. The stoss slope is smoothly abraded, the lee slope roughly plucked. A landscape dominated by such features is said to have ‘stoss-and-lee topography’. See roche moutonée.
