Cosmos satellites
A Dictionary of Astronomy
Cosmos satellites An ongoing series of Earth satellites, initiated by the former Soviet Union and continued by Russia; the name is also spelt Kosmos. Cosmos satellites were the successors to the Sputnik series. Scientific satellites, military satellites, and failures of other missions have all been given the Cosmos name. The first Cosmos was launched in 1962March.
