Adler, Peter Herman (b Gablonz, Bohemia (now Jablonec, Cz.), 1899; d Ridgefield, Conn., 1990). Cz. conductor who emigrated to USA in 1939 (Amer. cit.). Held conducting posts in Bremen (1929–32) and Kiev (1933–6). Helped Fritz Busch to found New Opera Co., NY, 1941. Dir. NBC TV opera 1949–59. Cond., Baltimore SO 1959–68. NY Met début 1972. Dir., Amer. Opera Center, Juilliard Sch. of Mus. 1973–81.
