BELGRADE, Serbia - Serbia's president said Tuesday his country will never agree to a Western-backed plan to make Kosovo independent, but warned Serbians they are at a critical crossroads in efforts to reconcile with mainstream Europe and end impoverishing isolation.
In a wide-ranging interview, Boris Tadic told The Associated Press that joining the European Union is the only way forward for Serbia after years of ethnic wars during the breakup of the Yugoslav federation that turned the Balkan republic into a pariah state during the 1990s.
