ABSTRACT

A coarse-grained (CG) procedure that incorporates the information obtained from all-atom molecular dynamics (MD) simulations is presented and applied to actin filaments (F-actin). This procedure matches the averaged values and fluctuations of the effective internal coordinates that are used to define a CG model to the values extracted from atomistic MD simulations. The fluctuations of effective internal coordinates in a CG model are computed via normal-mode analysis (NMA), and...

[Ca.sup.2+] effects on myosin-II-mediated contraction of pseudo-contractile rings and transport of vesicles in extracts of clam oocytes.
The Biological Bulletin ; [Ca.sup.2+] is a key regulator of cytokinesis, the process by which the contractile ring constricts the cell to form the cleavage furrow. BAPTA (1 ,2-bis (aminophenoxy)-ethane-N,N,N',N'-tetraacetic acid) has been used to investigate the role of [Ca.sup.2+] in this process. Several studies have
Conformational Changes in Actin Filaments Induced by Formin Binding to the Barbed End
Biophysical Journal ; ABSTRACT Formins bind actin filaments and play an essential role in the regulation of the actin cytoskeleton. In this work we describe details of the formin-induced conformational changes in actin filaments by fluorescence-lifetime and anisotropy-decay experiments. The results show that the binding
Actin Filaments Play a Critical Role in Vacuolar Trafficking at the Golgi Complex in Plant Cells
Plant Cell ; Actin filaments are thought to play an important role in intracellular trafficking in various eukaryotic cells. However, their involvement in intracellular trafficking in plant cells has not been clearly demonstrated. Here, we investigated the roles actin filaments play in intracellular trafficking
GTPase Rho is involved in myosin-II-mediated contraction of pseudo-contractile rings and transport of vesicles in extracts of clam oocytes.
The Biological Bulletin ; Small GTP-binding proteins (G-proteins) of the Rho family have been shown to regulate cytoskeleton reorganization, whereas G-proteins of the Rab family have been shown to regulate intracellular trafficking and vesicle transport (1). In mammalian cells, Rho proteins Rho/Rac/Cdc42 regulate the
Cloning and Functional Characterization of a Formin-Like Protein (AtFH8) from Arabidopsis1
Plant Physiology ; The actin cytoskeleton is required for many cellular processes in plant cells. The nucleation process is the rate-limiting step for actin assembly. Formins belong to a new class of conserved actin nucleator, which includes at least 2 formin homology domains, FH1 and FH2, which direct the assembly
