Simply stated, capillary electrophoresis (CE) is the miniaturized instrumental version of traditional electrophoresis (see page 20). Using sophisticated instrumentation and advanced capillary column technology, CE is becoming a powerful analytical technique for high-resolution separations of complex samples (Figure 1). Unlike conventional electrophoresis, it is highly efficient, amenable to automation, has small sample requirements, and provides accurate quantitative analyses.
