First Dalit president Narayanan is dead

NEW DELHI, India, Nov 9 -- FORMER PRESIDENT K.R. Narayanan, who died here on Wednesday, was the first Dalit to become the first citizen of the country. A multifaceted personality, he embodied the very best in the country's liberal and secular traditions and combined erudition with political sagacity during his "pro-active" Presidency.
