Conservation starts on Sanchi Stupa

NEW DELHI, India, Nov 27 -- MAJOR CONSERVATION work on Sanchi Stupa No. 1, the world heritage monument about 45 km from here, has been started by the Bhopal circle of the Archaeological Survey of India. The conservation work includes two activities - water-tightening and pointing.
Once these works are completed, the Stupa would not require any conservation related to dangers posed by rainwater for the next 50 years, superintendent archaeologist K K Mohammad told the Hindustan Times.
