ABSTRACT

Vitamin A deficiency decreases hepatic phosphoenolpyruvate carboxykinase (PEPCK) gene expression in mice, and expression is restored with retinoic acid (RA) treatment in vivo. In the studies reported here, we examined changes in histone modification and coregulator association with the regulatory domains of the PEPCK gene in response to alterations in vitamin A status. We identified nuclear receptors that bind to retinoic acid response elements (RAREs) in the PEPCK promoter by...

Vitamin A depletion is associated with low phosphoenolpyruvate carboxykinase mRNA levels during late fetal development and at birth in mice1
The Journal of Nutrition ; Manuscript received 16 January 2003. Initial review completed 7 February 2003. Revision accepted 2 April 2003. ABSTRACT Expression of the phosphoenolpyruvate carboxykinase (PEPCK) gene is repressed during fetal liver development and activated at birth. It has been shown that the PEPCK gene is a

Introduction
The Journal of Nutrition ; Introduction' This symposium was intended to introduce potential molecular mechanisms whereby nutrients modulate carcinogenesis via activation of one or more steroid hormone receptors. In particular, this symposium focused on several nutrients or nutritional behaviors (i.e., retinoic acids, vitamin
Vitamin A regulates genes involved in hepatic gluconeogenesis in mice: Phosphoenolpyruvate carboxykinase, fructose-1,6-bisphosphatase and 6-phosphofructo-2-kinase/fructose-2,6-bisphosphatase
The Journal of Nutrition ; ABSTRACT We examined the effects of vitamin A deficiency and all-trans retinoic acid (RA) supplementation on regulation of three important genes in hepatic gluconeogenesis: the genes for phosphoenolpyruvate carboxykinase (PEPCK), fructose-1,6-bisphosphatase (Fru-1,6-P2ase) and
Screening of novel nuclear receptor agonists by a convenient reporter gene assay system using green fluorescent protein derivatives.
Phytomedicine: International Journal of Phytotherapy & Phytopharmacology ; Abstract Nuclear receptors represent a very good family of protein targets for the prevention and treatment of diverse diseases. In this study, we screened natural compounds and their derivatives, and discovered ligands for the retinoic acid receptors (RARs) and the farnesoid X receptor (FXR). In
