Addressing the "Theory Crisis" in Developmental Education: Ideas from Practitioners in the Field

Abstract

This article summarizes survey responses provided by participants at two state and two national developmental education conferences regarding theoretical perspectives to guide the profession. Developmental educators identified a wide variety of theories of human development and learning theories as well as theories specific to their academic disciplines. We then linked theories and theorists to their notable publications in order to provide readers with a reference list for expanding their knowledge of applicable theoretical frameworks.
