Cells of the marine diatom Phaeodactylum tricornutum Bohlin (UTEX 642) grown in 5% CO2 were transferred to air-level CO2 in the light or dark and allowed to acclimate to air. No accumulation of the transcript of the P. tricornutum β-carbonic anhydrase 1 (ptca1) was detected in 5% CO2-grown cells, but ptca1 mRNA accumulated and reached a peak after 6 h acclimation to air but decreased over the next 18 h. A similar accumulation time course was observed in cells air-acclimated in the dark, ...

An anaplerotic role for mitochondrial carbonic anhydrase in Chlamydomonas reinhardtii1
Plant Physiology ; Previous studies of the mitochondrial carbonic anhydrase (mtCA) of Chlamydomonas reinhardtii showed that expression of the two genes encoding this enzyme activity required photosynthetically active radiation and a low CO2 concentration. These studies suggested that the mtCA was involved in the
Carbonic Anhydrase and Alveolar Fluid Absorption/From the Authors
American Journal of Respiratory Cell and Molecular Biology ; To the Editor: The recent article by Chen and coworkers (1) reports that carbonic anhydrase II (CAII) is found in both type I and type II alveolar epithelial cells. Although inhibition of CAII with acetazolamide or methazolamide delayed intracellular acidification during hypercapnia in cultured
Modeling of the Solubilities of NiO/NiAl^sub 2^O^sub 4^ and FeO/FeAl^sub 2^O^sub 4^ in Cryolite Melts at 1300 K
Metallurgical and Materials Transactions ; Experiments to measure the solubilities of NiOTNiAl^sub 2^O^sub 4^ and FeO/FeAl^sub 2^O^sub 4^ were performed, and the results confirmed existing literature values. The solubilities of NiAl^sub 2^O^sub 4^ and FeAl^sub 2^O^sub 4^ in Al^sub 2^O^sub 3^-saturated cryolite melts at 1300 K were modeled

Plant Physiology ; Carbonic anhydrase (CA; EC 4.2.1.1) catalyzes the interconversion of CO^sub 2^ and HCO^sub 3^^sup -^ and is a major protein constituent of the C^sub 3^ higher plant chloroplast where it is presumed to play a role in photosynthetic carbon assimilation. In this study, we have used both RNA antisense
