Bakers tapping whole grain buzz

As commercial bread companies drive whole grain awareness through national promotions, bakery retailers and specialty wholesalers are benefitting from the good grain buzz. General Mills reformulated its entire line of breakfast cereals to incorporate whole grains, including its children's brands, such as Trix. Sara Lee declared 2005 "The Year of Whole Grains" with a promotion campaign for its Heart Healthy Plus breads. For retail bakers, the trend towards whole grains is a welcome move and another way for them to promote their advantages in healthful products and clean labels.
