Compact and Low-Power Diode Laser Hygrometer for Weather Balloons
|
ABSTRACT
A vertical cavity laser hygrometer has been developed for balloon-borne measurements. This hygrometer meets many of the specifications that are required for common weather balloon instrumentation, including weight, size, time response, and sensitivity. In addition, the system cost has been dramatically lowered relative to prior diode laser instruments. Sensitivity of 2 and 0.9 µbar at low- and high-altitude conditions, respectively, has been obtained in a 1-s measurement peri...

What was big as a jeep, became smaller than a penny: tiny tunable diode laser moisture and carbon dioxide sensors for pipeline gas are the outcome of an exciting story, and there is more to come.(Sensing Moisture In Gas)
Pipeline & Gas Journal
; It was a memorable day in January 2003. I had just joined SpectraSensors as CEO and Dr. Randy May--Vice President/Chief Technology Officer and co-founder--used a dramatic visual to put into perspective the development of the tunable diode laser (TDL). Imagine a gondola the size of a Jeep weighing

Please don't let me be misunderstood.(satellite images of water vapor)
Weatherwise
; If fuzzy satellite images of water vapor were inclined to impersonate a rock group (please indulge me here), their likely choice would be the Animals, whose repertoire of 1960s hits included Please don't let me be understood. That's because there is a popular misconception that dark areas on water
