Lake Okeechobee Water Ends Up in the Sea
|
Lake Okeechobee has reached its highest level for July in 70 years, at 16.69 feet.
Extremely high water levels in the Everglades have forced deer and other animals onto levees and tree islands for food and shelter.
In some areas, water levels are five feet higher than this time last year. The entire 16-county South Florida Water Management District's system is currently saturated.
With near-record water levels continuing to rise, the system designed to lower the levels by water releases and flood controls is now running non-stop.
