Sex and Gender in Iron Age Musical Performance

"Who's the man?," a current slang expression for "Who's the best?," is often shouted boastfully by male and female athletes to their opponents after scoring a touchdown, basket or goal. This interrogative typically seeks to punctuate the points attained, accentuate the skill the individual used to achieve this, and, most importantly, attempts to force one's opponent to concede verbally who is the better player-at least for that moment.
