METHANOL DEMAND REMAINS WEAK, U.S. PRODUCERS PINCHED BY HIGHER GAS PRICING

If there was one word to describe the methanol market throughout the majority of the month, it was "weak." There was little, if any, pricing support for methanol coming from product demand increases over the month, sources said. The only true upward movement in U.S. methanol prices came in reaction to an increase in U.S. natural gas prices. That move left many U.S. producers with even more difficulties in production margins.

The price for spot methanol on the U.S. Gulf Coast was up to around 33 c/gal by the end of October. This represents an increase of about 5 cents over the 28 c/gal ...
