ABSTRACT

Time-resolved measurements indicated that protons could propagate on the surface of a protein or a membrane by a special mechanism that enhanced the shuttle of the proton toward a specific site. It was proposed that a suitable location of residues on the surface contributes to the proton shuttling function. In this study, this notion was further investigated by the use of molecular dynamics simulations, where Na+ and Cl- are the ions understudy, thus avoiding the necessity for...

Molecular Dynamics - On Biotechnology's Rocky Road
Instrument Business Outlook ; Molecular Dynamics, with headquarters in Sunnyvale, CA, was founded in 1987, a time when the biotechnology fever was at its zenith. The company entered the market with good products based on imaging technologies. Sales grew rapidly to $10 million in 1990, almost $19 million in 1991, and more than

Pressure-induced water transport in membrane channels studied by molecular dynamics
Biophysical Journal ; ABSTRACT A method is proposed to measure the water permeability of membrane channels by means of molecular dynamics simulations. By applying a constant force to the bulk water molecules and a counter force on the complementary system, a hydrostatic pressure difference across the membrane can be
Molecular Dynamics Simulation Suggests Possible Interaction Patterns at Early Steps of [beta]^sub 2^-Microglobulin Aggregation
Biophysical Journal ; ABSTRACT Early events in aggregation of proteins are not easily accessible by experiments. In this work, we perform a 5-ns molecular dynamics simulation of an ensemble of 27 copies of β^sub 2^-microglobulin in explicit solvent. During the simulation, the formation of intermolecular contacts is
