Determination of Stereochemistry of Bacteriochlorophyll g^sub F^ and 8^sup 1^-Hydroxy-chlorophyll a^sub F^ from Heliobacterium modesticaldum¶

ABSTRACT
The reaction center complex of heliobacteria contains three kinds of chlorophyll pigments, bacteriochlorophyll g^sub F^ (BChl g^sub F^), its 13^sup 2^-epimer BChl g'^sub F^ and 8^sup 1^-hydroxy-chlorophyll a^sub F^ (8^sup 1^-OH-Chl a^sub F^). Because the full stereochemistry of these naturally occurring chlorophyllous pigments has remained unknown, we determined the stereochemistry of both BChl g^sub F^ and 8^sup 1^-OH-Chl a^sub F^ extracted from Heliobacterium modesticaldum.
