Pointed pastime; Women find threads of friendship while stitching Judaic needlework

It's a place where people get together to help each other in the art of needlework. It's a social group. It's people who take part in a yearly "mitzvah project." And the Needle Mavens is a band of (mostly) women dedicated to making Judaic art.
"We're both for needlework and camaraderie," says NM co-president Melanie Grishman, 62, of North Bethesda, who has been a member for 10 years. "Some people join because they want to learn, but stay because of the camaraderie they find."
