Bulk forms of nanostructured metals and alloys exhibit extraordinarily high strength and have been studied extensively for several decades. Research in recent years has focused on the unusually high creep as well as poor fracture toughness related to the unique microstructures of these materials. This article reviews some findings from the investigations on creep and fracture behavior in the last decade. It also summarizes the latest experimental results on nano-nickel, Cu, Pd, Al-Zr, and Zn ...

The Effect of Grain Size, Strain Rate, and Temperature on the Mechanical Behavior of Commercial Purity Aluminum
Metallurgical and Materials Transactions
; Commercial purity aluminum AA1050 was subjected to equal channel angular extrusion (ECAE) that resulted in an ultranne-grained (UFG) microstructure with an as-received grain size of 0.35 m. This UFG material was then annealed to obtain microstructures with grain sixes ranging from 0.47 to 20 m.

Grain size and its influence on materials properties.(THE HEAT TREAT DOCTOR)
Industrial Heating
; As metallurgists, we know the importance of grain size, and as heat treaters, we need to be sure we understand how grain size will affect mechanical properties especially when designing our process recipes. Let's learn more. Grain size specifics The grain size of carbon and alloy steels is

A composite model for the grain-size dependence of yield stress of nanograined materials
Metallurgical and Materials Transactions
; Based on the observation that, in a nanograined material, a significant portion of atoms resides in the grain-boundary region and grain-boundary activity plays a key role for its plastic behavior, a micromechanics-based composite model is developed to calculate the transition of yield stress as the

Deformation mechanisms during low- and high-temperature superplasticity in 5083 Al-Mg alloy
Metallurgical and Materials Transactions
; The controlling deformation mechanisms and grain boundary sliding behavior during low-, medium-, and high-temperature superplasticity (LTSP, MTSP, and HTSP) in fine-grained 5083 Al-Mg base alloys are systematically examined as a function of strain. Grain boundary sliding was observed to proceed at
