Snellen visual acuity testing does not give an accurate picture of functional vision. In order to more fully understand . how a person sees, measurement of contrast sensitivity is essential. Contrast sensitivity testing can be a powerful indication for cataract surgery, even if a patient's visual acuity doesn't meet the insurance/Medicare guidelines of 20/50.
